ITINERARY DESCRIPTION

During the hike along the paths of the Reserve there will be stops where experts will describe different aspects of the area such as the twinned "swallowtail" selenitic chalks, the rupicolous vegetation of the Mediterranean maquis, the flight of birds of prey such as buzzards and different types of hawks, and the archaeological remains of the Elymian settlement of Entella (6th century B.C.). After about 2 hours you will arrive at the Visitor Reception Center of the Reserve (on the summit plateau of the Entella Rock). From here the hike will continue to a vantage point over the left Belìce River Valley with a view of the Mario Francese Dam and Lake Garcia. At the end of the hike, a tasting of local products will be offered at the Visitor Reception Center, and authorities and organizers will briefly highlight the value and purpose of the event taking cues from what was observed during the hike. Following this, simple interactive environmental education activities will be initiated for middle school students from the surrounding area who will participate in the event.
