Decarbonization Ecosystems: The Impact of University Partnerships

Event coordinated by the University of Toronto

Looking at the NZE Scenario (Net Zero Emission by 2050), Universities ought not to be "ivory towers". Universities ought to - or, rather, must - relate themselves to the societies by which they are hosted and to which they contribute. A panel of ten experts will face this issue by discussing real life examples of how universities, communities, and the industry cooperate towards the goal of decarbonization. The event will also shed light towards Universities' role in the promotion of social justice, equity, and youth leadership in this process of energy transition.

The panel will also feature, among others, the University of Toronto's 46-partner decarbonization project, the Italian University Network (RUS)'s decarbonization guidelines, the Climate Leadership Network's 450+ institution decarbonization plans, and the UK Universities and U7+ Climate Network leadership initiative.

Networks and Universities involved: École Polytechnique; Northwestern University; Politecnico di Torino; Second Nature, the University Climate Change Coalition (UC3) Secretariat; U7+ Alliance; Università degli Studi di Genova; Université Côte-d'Azur; Université de Montréal; University of Edinburgh; Washington University St. Louis; Italian University Network for Sustainable Development (RUS).

Speakers:

  • Shatha Qaqish-Clavering, Director of the Climate Positive Energy Team, University of Toronto
  • Beth Martin, Co-Moderator of Second Nature, Washington University St. Louis
  • Erwin Franquet, Université Côte-d'Azur
