In June 2022, Abruzzo's RUS member universities launched the RUS Abruzzo network with the goal of increasing university cooperation at the regional level, in order to promote sustainable development, develop joint initiatives, and strengthen the impact on institutions and territory.

The creation of the network is the result of a long-standing process of collaboration between the RUS representatives of the Abruzzo Universities. This collaboration took place first with the organization of the regional event of the 2nd Edition of Climbing for Climate, in September 2020 ("Abruzzo Universities on the Gran Sasso for Sustainable Development"), and then with the joint organization of the national event of the 3rd Edition of Climbing for Climate in September 2021, with the ascent to the Calderone Glacier on the Corno Grande.
RUS Abruzzo also participated in organizing "People and Territories in Transition" - the 2nd Symposium on Social Transition and Climate Change - which was held in Teramo in May 2023.
