The Sustainable Development Festival 2019

The annual appointment with the Festival of Sustainable Development is again renewed. The 2019 edition took place from May 21 to June 6. Thanks to the notoriety acquired and the growing mobilization of the Italian society on sustainable development issues, the event represents a further step to drive Italy to reach the 2030 Agenda.

The Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASVIS), to which RUS joins, brings together more than 220 organizations from the economic and social world, organizes the Festival together with its members and with the support of partners and tutors, over a period of 17 days, as many as the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030. The initiative constitutes a single huge event, widespread and inclusive, consisting of hundreds of events organized throughout the country.

The Festival was created to involve and sensitize an ever-growing number of people on the issues of economic, social and environmental sustainability, going beyond the experts, to promote a cultural change in individual and collective behavior and stimulate requests "from below" to commit the leadership of the country to the commitments made at the UN. In addition, the Festival wants to give voice to citizens, firms, central and local governments, universities and civil society to encourage dialogue, discussion and sharing of best practices on the issues of the 2030 Agenda.

A unique format on the international scene that allows to reach millions of people every year throughout Italy, stimulating an unprecedented reflection on the future of our country, Europe and the world, thanks to the involvement of hundreds of organizations throughout Italy, the active role played by universities and the opening of "squares" of sustainable development in some major cities.

Based on the extraordinary university mobilization recorded during the previous edition of the Festival, the collaboration of the Network of the Universities of Sustainable Development for the Festival will be increased, in order to make the Universities protagonists of the 17 days of the event.
