Politecnico di Milano

Polycycle for EWWR: not only repair and reuse, but also upcycling

Politecnico di Milano in partnership with Policiclo, the Athenaeum cycle shop

When and where: November 25, 2022 from 16.00 p.m. to 20.00 p.m., Sede Policiclo, Ed. B6, campus Bovisa Durando

Description

In addition to educating on sustainable mobility, POLICICLO also helps to promote the circular economy by recovering used bike parts that no longer work to be used to repair other bikes or create "new" ones, thus reducing waste production and avoiding the purchase of new parts (with also reducing related environmental impacts).

When bicycle parts are too worn out or diseased to be reused, they are still not considered waste, but are valued where possible. By way of example:

- old bicycle rims, properly restored, were used to decorate the ceiling of the new Durando velostation;

- worn tires and inner tubes are regularly collected and turned into belts and key chains that are also resold within the Polimi Official Merchandise (Cingomma Project).
