SERRiously Sustainable
Università degli Studi di Pavia in partenership with EC2U Alliance, Respect Life, Good Sustainable Mood, BridgeNET, Sfuso&Diffuso, Folladisopralab, RepairCafè, MatildeCrea
When and where: from 19 to 26 November, Pavia
The Università di Pavia takes part in SERR 2022 this year, involving the 7 partner universities of the European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U) Alliance project and other local entities.
This year's action will focus on the theme of textile waste and sustainable fashion. The program opens on November 19 with a conference in the Aula Magna of the Athenaeum, hosting experts from academia, green influencers and local sustainable entrepreneurs.
The conference is structured as follows:
1) Talk on the impact of the textile industry on the environment and people, by Valeria Barbi (among her positions, she is Ambassador of the European Climate Pact);
2) "Paradigm Change: good examples and best practices," testimonies from local artisans and small businesses active in recycling, upcycling and circular economy practices (Respect Life, Good Sustainable Mood).
The conference will be followed by a swap party open to students and citizens, including international ones thanks to the involvement of student organizations. Clothing that will not be swapped will be donated to Ukraine through the BridgeNET project, coordinated by the University of Pavia. The Athenaeum will also inaugurate the use of a "shared closet" to be located within the Athenaeum for people to exchange clothes year-round, borrowing common clothes, available to the community. The day will end with a networking drink.
After the opening event, the Università di Pavia will organize other activities during SERR to keep the academic community and civil society engaged on the issue:
● 23/11, Creative Textile Packaging: "Creative and Sustainable Christmas Packaging."
The workshop will be organized by the youth association "Sfuso&Diffuso" of Liguria and will be held at the bookstore "Il Delfino" which, for the occasion, will also set up a corner dedicated to books focused on SERR issues and make a small book presentation. The session will be followed by a networking aperitif.
● 25/11, recording of a podcast with green influencer Andrea Grieco
● 26/11, Sewing workshop: "Recovering and reinventing a garment."
This workshop will be held by Folladisopralab (Francesca dell'Angelo), RepairCafè, and artisan MatildeCrea, at the "Circolo Via d'Acqua," ARCI section. Participants are invited to bring old unused textiles to be reinvented. A vegan networking drink will be offered to participants at the end of the day.
