Description

The Green Office of Università di Torino UniToGO,

on the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction, is organizing the second edition of Re-circulate it, the extraordinary collection of used clothing and medium/large textiles (curtains, tablecloths, blankets) flanked by the information campaign on the environmental impacts of the textile sector and innovative solutions for their prevention and reduction. The Schools of Legal, Political and Economic and Social Sciences and the School of Management and Economics are partners in the initiative.
The first edition held in 2021 met with strong interest from the university community, which participated in large numbers: more than 240 kilograms of materials were collected, including clothing and textiles that found a second life, thanks to the collaboration with the Esserci Cooperative and its Exito project, a social tailoring and accessories production workshop aimed at women in situations of weakness.

During the week of Nov. 21-25, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., participants can drop off their clean and in good condition used clothing and/or textiles, in sealed bags only, at the following locations:
Luigi Einaudi Campus (Block D1), Lungo Dora Siena 100/A
School of Management and Economics (atrium new educational hub) Via Filadelfia 73
Palazzo degli Stemmi (Room 233), Via Po 31 (exclusively for University staff)

Once again this year, thanks to the renewed collaboration with the Esserci Cooperative and its Exito social tailoring workshop, medium/large textiles (even those that are not perfectly intact) will find new life through an upcycling process that allows for the recovery and reuse of materials in an environmentally sustainable and socially valuable way. Clothing in good condition, on the other hand, will be donated through the Esserci cooperative network to people in need.
At the same time, the Green Office is renewing its online information campaign on the issue of environmental impacts of the textile sector and solutions for their prevention and reduction aimed at increasing the community's awareness of its choices and raising awareness of the importance of reusing and recycling clothing and textiles.

Re-circulate it 2nd edition is sponsored by the waste group of the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development - RUS is included in the SERR 2022 calendar whose thematic focus is precisely on Circular and Sustainable Textiles.
