EVENT

The Climate Crisis: Constitutional, Criminal, and Engineering Perspectives in Light of the 2030 Agenda Goals

The event will take place on October 9, 2024, at the Auditorium of the former Purità Church, Department of Law, with sessions scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The first session of the conference will be dedicated to the constitutional aspects of the climate crisis. We will analyze current environmental laws and legislative proposals, with a particular focus on constitutional rights related to environmental protection. We will also discuss the role of institutions in ensuring environmental sustainability.

The second session will address the criminal aspects of the climate crisis. We will explore the criminal penalties currently in place for environmental crimes, assessing the need to update the legal framework to effectively respond to the new challenges posed by climate change. Concrete examples of the application of environmental criminal law will be presented.

The third session will focus on the engineering aspects of the climate crisis. In this part of the conference, environmental engineers and researchers will present innovative technological and engineering solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change. The latest innovations aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental engineering projects that are making a difference worldwide will be discussed.

The professors organizing this conference are Prof. Ida Angela Nicotra, Prof. Federico Vagliasindi, Prof. Grazia Maria Vagliasindi, and Prof. Paolo Roccaro.

EVENT

The event will involve citizen associations and various interested entities, as well as students and trainees from different fields.

Key topics will include important issues for addressing "Climate Change Climbing," such as sustainable development, biodiversity and human health, heatwaves, environmental emergencies and significant risks (environmental crisis, energy crisis, wars), inequalities and equity in the distribution of risk and health impacts, environmental anamnesis as a tool to identify and assess population exposure, and respond with preventive measures, especially for more fragile and vulnerable groups, Urban Health, and the Green Economy as a response to climate change.

The day is therefore dedicated to providing students, professionals in the field, and citizens with the foundations to understand the issues of climate change and the necessary interventions to maintain a high quality of life and environment.
