RUS at COP29

 

COP29, the twenty-ninth Conference of the Parties, will be held from November 11 to 22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan. At COP29, various United Nations countries will gather to discuss actions to achieve the collective climate goals agreed upon under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Many events and numerous scheduled meetings will be streamed live and can be followed on the UN Climate Change YouTube channel.

The full schedule of events organized at the Italian Pavilion will be available on the website of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE).

This year, RUS will be present at COP29 with two "side events" on November 12 and November 19, 2024.

Universities and Youth in Education, Mitigation, and Adaptation for Climate Initiatives

Event organized by the Politecnico di Torino for the RUS - Network of Italian Universities for Sustainable Development

 

The side event explores the key role of universities and young people in education and strategies for mitigating and adapting to the climate crisis. Through an introduction to the RUS Manifesto and a roundtable discussion, the event examines the synergies between universities, public and private entities, and youth, to promote effective collaborations and concrete initiatives for a sustainable future. Special attention is given to mitigation and adaptation processes to be adopted within conventional areas of environmental sustainability (circular economy, anthropogenic water cycle, transport system, energy production).

  • The role of the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS) in addressing the climate crisis – introduction to the Manifesto “Universities for Sustainable Development in the Country”
  • Roundtable on the theme of collaborations and synergies between universities and stakeholders in the public and private sectors, and the relationship with young people in education, mitigation, and adaptation initiatives to tackle the climate crisis

Youth-Driven Sustainable Cities: Advancing Just Transformations of Urban Systems

Event organized by YES-Europe in collaboration with the European Youth Energy Network (EYEN), Politecnico di Torino for the RUS Network and Janvikas

 

This event will spotlight youth-led innovations that are actively reshaping urban and regional areas toward a sustainable future. Through a series of panel discussions and case studies, young leaders will present their pioneering work in green infrastructure, renewable energy, and climate resilience, illustrating how youth are tackling climate challenges with fresh and impactful solutions directly from YES Europe, the European Youth Energy Forum and Youth4Climate awardees. Key themes will include collaborative pathways for scaling these efforts across sectors, focusing on the critical roles of mentorship, skill-building, and cross institutional partnerships.
