EVENT

The Role of Marine Protected Areas in the Fight Against Climate Change and Marine Litter

The Mediterranean Sea, due to its configuration and location, is particularly vulnerable to climate change and marine litter. Marine protected areas are one of the most effective tools in the fight against marine litter, in protecting biodiversity, and in implementing effective strategies to combat climate change.

The aim of the event is to promote the strategic and privileged role of Mediterranean marine protected areas in monitoring the effects of climate change, supporting adaptation and mitigation efforts, raising environmental awareness about marine litter, fostering sustainable tourism, and engaging local communities as active participants in the economic, social, and cultural transition.

The venue of the event, Milazzo Castle - overlooking the Capo Milazzo Marine Protected Area - will serve as an opportunity to showcase the exemplary actions and experiences promoted by the Capo Milazzo Marine Protected Area Management Consortium.

The event is part of two initiatives promoted by the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS): Action for Climate 2024 and RUSClean.
