Interdisciplinary meeting at the City of Giampilieri to discuss the connections between climate change and extreme events and to discuss how the Messina area, hit in 2009 by one of the most intense floods in recent times, has changed and is slowly trying to re-emerge. The event involves both university faculty and journalists in order to intersect technical and scientific issues with media reports of the event. Lastly, it will be shown how, due to this environmental disaster, a high spatial resolution weather forecasting model capable of making risk predictions was developed within the MIFT Department of the University of Messina. The model has been tested on several successive extreme events, for some of which scientific papers have been produced and published.
