M'illumino di meno 2024
A fixed appointment: in 2024 too, the RUS - Network of Universities for Sustainable Development promoted "M’illumino di meno", National Day for Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles launched by the Rai Radio2 Caterpillar program, which took place Friday, February 16.
Since 2005 - the year of the first edition of the initiative - much has changed. First of all, from 2022 "M'illumino di meno" is no longer just a campaign, but a National Day, a moment of celebration and reflection, a recurring opportunity to stop and consider whether the path taken is the right one towards ecological transition.
Above all, however, what really has changed are the tones and methods of discourse around the climate crisis. If in 2005 a true ecological transition could seem like another utopian project for humanity, by the end of 2023, this transition made its first appearance in the final agreement of the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP28). Furthermore, since 2022, environmental issues have become part of the Italian Constitution, and since 2015, the international community has been participating in the ambitious project outlined by the United Nations' Agenda 2030.
Thus, in its 20th edition, "M'illumino di meno" broke the boundaries, and addressed everyone, with the intention of stimulating a dialogue that must be first and foremost international and pervasive. The theme of the 2024 edition, then, has been "No borders" - as its title says - because the environment we must defend - seas, oceans, forests, glaciers - has no borders, and likewise, humanity's action towards ecological transition must also know no borders.
In 2024, "M'illumino di meno" invited municipalities, schools, universities, and the entire community not only to act in their daily lives but above all to seek alliances and develop international projects, to "turn off the borders" and transcend them in the name of a concrete change of course.
