A Stroll in the Rice Fields: Between History, Nature, and Climate

The RUS Piemonte subnetwork, composed of the University of Eastern Piedmont, the Polytechnic University of Turin, the University of Turin, and the University of Gastronomic Sciences, will participate in the initiative through an educational and awareness walk that will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, among the rice fields of the Novara area.

The proposed activity includes a short hike through rice paddies, canals, and springs, exploring rice ecosystems and the deep connections this sector has established with the environment and local traditions. With the support of scholars and experts, the activity will provide an opportunity to deepen knowledge of the natural heritage as well as the delicate balance between water and rice.

Participants are scheduled to meet at 12:30 PM at Cascina Motta Farm, San Pietro Mosezzo (NO). After a convivial moment, during which participants can taste paniscia, one of the iconic dishes of Novara's food and wine tradition, the walk through the fields will begin, lasting approximately two hours.

Comfortable clothing and trekking shoes are recommended. The route is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.
