Universities for the Sustainable Development of the Country

Event organized by the Università degli Studi di Udine and the RUS - Network of Universities for Sustainable Development, under the patronage of the CRUI - Conference of Italian University Rectors

The Università degli Studi di Udine and the RUS - Network of Universities for Sustainable Development, under the patronage of the CRUI - Conference of Italian University Rectors, are organizing two days titled “Universities for the Sustainable Development of the Country,” on Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12 in Udine. The conference is being held on the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Manifesto “Universities for Sustainability, Sustainability is in the University”, signed on May 30, 2019 during the conclusion of the Magnifici Incontri Crui, as part of the event “Knowledge in Celebration,” organized by the University of Udine in cooperation with the Conference of Italian University Rectors.

The objective of the congress is to evaluate the role and actions of Italian Universities over these years and to update the Manifesto and the Implementation Plan.

The RUS - Network of Universities for Sustainable Development - has followed up on the implementation of the Manifesto by initiating a specific group - the Technical Capacity Building Table - which has recently produced a Report on the definition of guidelines, best practices, and metrics capable of measuring the success of universities' social impact actions and initiatives. The Report focuses on eight major themes: Climate Change, Food, Education, Energy, Inclusion and Social Justice, Mobility, Resources and Waste, Universities for Industry.

In Europe, the 100 Mission Cities project has been launched - the Italian cities participating are Bergamo, Bologna, Firenza, Milano, Padova, Parma, Prato, Roma, and Torino - with the goal of achieving the decarbonization of cities by 2030. Territories, cities, and regions are all involved in this transition, with universities committed to supporting the sustainable development of the country through education, research, innovation, knowledge sharing, external leadership, and internal organizational capacity.
